H is for Helpers

During all this hub-bub of holidays and birthdays we did manage to squeeze in a few lessons for school. We did learn about the letter "H" and the theme was community helpers. I did not at all like the lesson prepared in my curriculum so I mainly just used my resources in my classroom and studied the letter "H" with a few worksheets to suppliment. (I did not get a lot of pictures as my memory card was full and I did not get time to download them)

As has become a tradition I taped the letter H on the floor and we talked on it stating "this is the letter H and it makes the sound hah... this is the little letter h and it starts helper"

We glued "hay" to the letter "H" (side note: this makes a MESS)

We used our letter puzzle and flashcards alot
And finally some worksheets as follow-ups

Princess #1's Big Birthday Talent Show

For Princess #1's birthday party this year she wanted to do a Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses Party. We are not opposed to Barbie but it is not our favorite character either, so we turned the party into a talent show (because the princesses love to dance). Princess #1 had a great time being the emcee. When we sent out the invites we asked all the guests to prepare something to "do" whether it was a song, a poem, a dance, or a reading. We had lots of participation and lots of fun!! We held it at our church and we set up a small stage with a karaoke machine and micophone. Here are some of the "acts"....

Halloween

We live in a rural community, in a "housing development", in the village. So, most of the community comes to our area to trick or treat, we average about 200-300 kids on Halloween night. When Prince Charming and I first moved here we struggled with the idea of Halloween as it is full of gore and blood and not Christ. We wanted to particpate in our community, but not promote the scary demonic side of Halloween. We decided to hand out candy but with the candy we also hand out kids Halloween tracts. It is the only time in the year when children come to us and we can send out a little light in our community. As of yet in 8 years we have only had one family refuse to take what we have given. We pray that somewhere the truth will not return void.

My mom is an excellent seamtress and a couple of years ago she sewed a lion costume and a lamb costume for Princess #1 which we were able to resuse this year for Princess #2 & #3. Princess #1 wanted to be Minnie Mouse which we happened to have in our "dress up" clothes so my mom didn't need to do any sewing for Halloween this year, but as you will see later she was busy sewing Christmas dresses for the girls!

I tried to get a picture of our street at peak candy time but it was difficult with the lighting, you cannot see it well but there are kids all up and down the street
