Our little classroom

This post is mainly for my sister-in-law in the frozen north who would someday like to homeschool her kids, but you can all peek into our little classroom...

The Northern Family
(there is a new little princess snuggled in Mommy's jacket)

Our classroom: there is another desk that didn't make this picture. On the left, under the pad of paper you will see bins that holds all of our supplies. To right are two desks that holds all of our books and writing utensils. In between the two desks is a bookshelf that houses all of our revelent books to the current theme.

Our daily circle time mainly revolves around the "days of the week" chart on the left, the "calendar" in the middle and the "weather chart" on the right. We then go over a bible lesson or memory verse and then read a few books. I also write a letter to Princess #2 every school day that lets her know what we will be doing that day. She can't read but she has fun when I read it to her during circle time
Then it is to the table to do our activities/worksheets.

Classroom Tour

Our classroom is located in a small "alcove" area of our living room. It is approximately 7 feet wide and 4 feet deep. I have two small girls in Kindergarten and preschool so we have lots of early child learning items.

The view from our front door and living room. The best view of the classroom as a whole
Standing inside the classroom looking out into the living room. I went and purchased lots of storage containers so that each item would have it's place. It is easy for the girls to get items for me and to put them away in their proper places. All the items on the top are available at anytime for creativity. (i.e. crayons, markers, pencils, coloring books, paper). The pink basket is our "question box," after we read a story the girls get to pick a card and answer a question about the book. The white bag is our library bag, a year ago the MVLS replaced all of their old bags used to transport requested books with newer ones and the librarians were able to take the older ones home. My local librarian felt sorry for me having to lug out all of our books (we get 30-40 at a time) and three kids so she gave me an extra one she had. Our wall of posters. (We still need a shapes and colors one) Most of these came from Target's dollar section which is full of teacher's resources right now.
The view from the living room. The only thing I don't like about this area is the lack of wall space due to the windows, but on the flip side, it nice and warm and bright. I also don't like the little table we have, it is too small for both girls to sit at together, but since Princess #1 will be headed off to public school this fall it will work for Princess #2.
